Desperately Seeking Enthusiasm

I am spoiled by sunshine living in Colorado. Regardless of how cold we get, we can depend on the sun to shine most days. I write these Sunday words of wisdom and encouragement midweek. Today is cloudy, dismal, and cold. When I look at the weather map, 95% of the entire US is cloudy, gloomy, and in many areas dangerously cold with their infrastructure failing, risking lives, safety, and well-being.

And this on top of all the other stuff, you know, like almost a year of living through a world-wide pandemic to name just one.

I’m tired. Exhausted, tired.

I’m sitting here mid-week trying to dig deep to share words of wisdom and encouragement, and they aren’t coming. So I did what any brilliant life coach would do, I grabbed my Dolly: An Unauthorized Collection of Wise & Witty Words On Grit, Lipstick, Love & Life From Dolly Parton book and opened it up to this quote:

“People say, ‘Oh, you just seem so happy.’ Well, that’s the Botox.”

Beautiful YOU, I know how desperately you want to feel happy and full of enthusiasm. I want that for myself and for all of you. And it just isn’t possible all.the.time. Dolly may seem like she’s happy all the time, but hey, that’s just the Botox. Plus, she’s an entertainer. I may seem happy all the time too, but hey! I have my days. Just like you.

Today, I’m not going to judge or force. I tried. I tried to fake it on this page today, and I can’t be fake. It’s not possible.

Here’s what I know to be true:

The sun is always shining - even when the clouds are blocking her rays.

The light at the end of the tunnel is not an illusion, the tunnel is.

Trust that in those times of pull-back, of tired, of a lack of enthusiasm, that we are being called to slow down and be. To go internal and fill ourselves with love and grace. And to trust that renewed good vibes are coming our way.

I have held space for women going through a worldwide pandemic and navigating her own life's circumstances for almost one year now. One thing I know for sure, you are truly amazing. And most of you, don’t even know it. Your superpowers are so innate, you don’t recognize them as such. Your ability to adapt, navigate, manage, and redirect is off the charts. Your Light that shines bright most days, like the sun, makes a difference to those around you. On the cloudy days, your light hasn’t dimmed, it’s just that you are being called to breathe easy, slow down a bit, order take-out, do the bare minimum at work, take a bath, go to bed early.

I held space for four humans today starting at 7:00 am. Despite me feeling like a cloudy day, my ability to powerfully coach didn’t go away. My light is still shining - even in the clouds. And so is yours.

Trust yourself, trust in your gifts, trust in your process, trust that you are ok.

By Monday, it’s going to be sunny, and mid-fifties here in Colorado, and I’m all here for that! I trust that my sense of rejuvenation and my energetic vibe will return. In the meantime, I’ll go easy on myself and keep it real.

Keep Shining,
